Though this session was nearly a year ago, it still remains one of my most favorite sessions of recent times.  This mama was past her due date at this session, and was still more than willing to traipse all over the park and nurse her 3 (yes! 3!) children.   These photos remind me that women are warriors, even when doing what seems to be so mundane and normal to us.  I hope you love these images as much as I do!  And I hope that you take the time to capture your mundane and normal, even if it's with a cell phone.  Our memories are so precious and should be kept forever.

Welcome to the second installment of J. Mansfield Photography's small business spotlight!  My goal is to feature as many local small businesses as possible to shine a light on the gems that keep our town beautiful!  If you are a small business owner in Seymour, and would love to be featured, please send me an email and we'll set up a meeting!  jaimee@jmansfieldphoto.com

When I stepped foot into Lizzie's Corner Consignment last week, I wasn't sure what to expect.  Within a few moments of talking to her, I could tell that Elizabeth was very passionate about her crafts, her store, and most importantly, her community.

Elizabeth bills her store as being an 'adventure in shopping' and 'eclectic mix of restored furniture, consignment items, and a boutique'.  At any given time, she has over 25 different crafters and producers represented in her store.  Everything from honey, baby gifts, children's books by a local author, prints by a local photographer, jewelry, to clothing.  Along with helping local crafters have a magical place to sell their products, she crafts lighted wine bottles!  In fact, this was how she came up with the idea for her store.  She once sold her wine bottles throughout New England, and every time she dropped bottles off at various boutiques and consignment stores she felt that she needed to have a shop of her own.

Along with giving local crafters a place to sell their goods, Elizabeth's biggest passion is community and charity.  She hosts numerous fundraising events at her store throughout the year, which benefit charities such as: suicide prevention, relay for life (american cancer society), Seymour Pink, the Nina Poeta fund, and more recently, multiple sclerosis research.  During these events, 20% of sales in the shop that night also go to charity.  Be sure to follow Lizzie's Corner Consignment on Facebook to stay updated on these events!

Looking for a unique gift?  Ask her about Made in Connecticut baskets.  These baskets can be as small or as large as you'd like (Elizabeth says most people spend around $50), and she will hand select locally made goods to fill the basket with.  Wouldn't that be a neat thing to give to an out of state family member or friend?

Be sure to stop in Lizzie's this weekend for Small Business Saturday, and pick out unique gifts that will win the hearts of their receivers, while supporting a small, family owned business.

Lizzie's Corner Consignment is located at 36 Bank Street in the heart of downtown Seymour, CT.  Check her out at: http://www.lizziescornerstore.com or on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Lizzies-Corner-Consignment-and-Gifts-156700401356358/  and on instagram- @lizziescorner

Welcome to the first installment of J.

Wildflour Confections is a unique (and lets face it, amazing) bakery located in the heart of downtown Seymour.  They offer everything from the run-of-the-mill cakes and cupcakes, to macaroons, truffles, cookies, and, cake pops.  Have a wheat or dairy allergy?  Have no fear! Wildflour confections is here!  They also have a daily offering of gluten, dairy free, and gluten/dairy free cupcakes and other treats!

On top of their daily offerings of treats (follow their social media accounts: https://www.facebook.com/wildflourcupcakesandsweets/, and @wildlfourconfections on instagram to see what they have to offer every day!), they specialize in custom cakes, cupcakes, and, other treats.  Check out their website: www.thewildflourconfections.com to see galleries of their gorgeous work.  You'll be hungry in an instant.

Wildflour is owned and operated by Alyssa DeMatteo, who grew up right here in Seymour.  Her love of cake decorating is said to have been sparked by making a cake with her sister in law when she was young.  She began baking and decorating cakes on her own in earnest in 2011, and by February of 2015, Wildflour Confections had a storefront.  Knowing Alyssa personally, I know how much time, talent, sacrifice, and pure love she's poured into this business, and it's a place my family goes to often.

Nearly 3 years later, Wildlfour employs 4-5 employees, and puts out several dozens of cupcakes and other treats a day.  Alyssa's favorite thing to work on?  Floral cakes (and if you follow her work on social media, you'll see just how beautiful these cakes are! In fact one of them inspired a recent cake smash session of mine!).  She draws the most inspiration from the Fall season, and what she loves most about being in downtown Seymour is the deep and quiet connection to all of the other shop owners.  They are a tight knit community who work together to keep our town interesting.

Check out a few photos from my recent visit there, and be sure to follow Wildflour on Facebook and instagram (and have a tissue at hand to wipe the drool from your screen, because they are *that* good) and pop in to say "hi!", grab a treat and a coffee, and maybe another treat to-go.  Wildflour Confections can be found at 18 Bank Street in Seymour, CT, Tuesday-Sunday.  Hours vary based on the season, but in one of the images below you can see a current schedule, as well as on their website and social media accounts.
